I brought 3 dummy cakes to the bridal show this past weekend, along with 5 flavors of our new MINIS! We are very excited about this new addition to camicakes. They are $1.50 per MINI and available in any flavor!

2011 is bringing many new things for camicakes. To start out the year camicakes will be a vendor at the Lawrence Free State Bridal Show January 15 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm! We are very excited and thankful for this wonderful opportunity. We will have 5 flavors to sample: vanilla with vanilla buttercream, chocolate with chocolate buttercream, red velvet with cream cheese, pink champagne (a favorite among our fans!), and limoncello with lemon filling (a new flavor-should be great!). Also at the show I will have a display with several different wedding cakes to show the various types of designs you can choose for your own special day. I hope to see you all there, it should be a great event! :)

Here is a cake I just sent off to the princess herself, Hannah! It is her 3rd birthday and she celebrated with a princess themed party. She is adorable, and I think this cake matches her perfectly!

The cake came with a tiara and princess wand! :)

Here is an email I received from a customer. I recently made cupcakes for her daughters birthday party.

"Got home last night, reminded Hannah that her birthday would be tomorrow and told her there were some cupcakes in the fridge from aunt Lissa & aunt Cami. Let’s go see. We go downstairs, I open the fridge, kneel down on the floor and open the box so she can see. Her eyes just about popped out of her head, she lets out the biggest happy sigh, slaps both cheeks with her tiny hands and says “Oh, my goodneth! Ith thith for me???” (not dramatic at all, right?) She couldn’t believe that box full of pink awesomeness is for her. I said “Yeah! This is for your birthday party tomorrow, honey!” And as I’m closing down the box to put back in the fridge, she leans over it and hugs it. You did good. THANK YOU!"

Hello Everyone! Whew it has been awhile since I last blogged. I have been so busy baking away in the kitchen, and experimenting with new flavors that I think you will all love. This fall I have been working on a seasonal batch of cupcakes: Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Caramel Apple, Pecan, Nutella, or French Toast. It is NOT too late to order some for your Thanksgiving celebration. These are 2 cakes that I made for my cousin Heather. The farm themed cake is for a baby shower. All of the animals, the fence and the flowers are made of gumpaste. I personally love the cows!

This cake is for a meeting that she is having. She works for an all-natural dog food company, so we decided to make a dog bowl. Unfortunately, the dog food I used was not all-natural. It's Reese's cereal! :)

This was a very special cake to me. My dear friend Katy graduated from KU this spring. This cake represents where she came from, where she is now and where she is headed. The bottom tier is Katy's past. She is from Virginia, so I had to portray the ocean and I used Virginia's state flower-the dogwood. The middle tier represents her present. She spent 4 years at KU and we were so blessed that she did! The top tier is NYC! She is going to be spending her summer there. So proud of you buddy!

The next 2 cakes are for graduations in Eudora, KS. I love the look of a smaller sheet cake and then adding additional servings with cupcakes....but I am pretty partial to cupcakes! ;)

This was a sweet 16 cake that I made for Sarah! It was so elegant and feminine. I loved it and I think that she did too! It was a classic white cake with fresh strawberry buttercream. My personal favorite!

This order was an adventure!! My uncle has been a music teacher for many years and this year he retired. My aunt threw him a retirement party and ordered 300 camicakes!! I said yes immediately after her asking..........YIKES! How was I going to make 300 cupcakes??

I figured out a secret that I hope to use frequently as I am learning about my business. I kept telling myself : "Just make one batch at a time". And that's what I did. With the help of family and friends, we made those 300 cupcakes and they went over very well. My mom probably has carpal tunnel from making all of those cupcake signs!!

This is my most recent wedding cake. The cake is a classic white cake with vanilla buttercream. I made the 4 tier cake, a full sheet cake and also a grooms cake. The wedding was in Emporia, KS, which is about an hour and a half drive from Lawrence. It was nerve-racking, but with my husband's expert cake driving skills and my sister's mini van - we made it.

These are 3 new cupcakes that I tried out over Memorial Day weekend. It is always nice to be able to use your family as guinea pigs!!

The first is a new spin on the peanut butter cup cupcake. This time I used a white cake base with fudge frosting, peanut butter drizzle and a peanut butter cup on top.

The second is a cupcake version of the southern classic dessert - Bananas Foster. It is a roasted banana cake with a brown sugar caramel/dark rum buttercream with a warm (homemade-not jarred) caramel sauce and topped with a bruleed banana slice.

The third creation is a take on key lime pie. I made a graham craker cupcake (sounds odd, huh?) and topped it with a key lime cream cheese frosting and sprinkles of crushed graham crackers. I had to finish it with a fresh wedge of key lime. The perfect summertime treat!

Just a few new cupcakes that I have made. The first is obviously cookie monster! The second was for a friend's new design company - 7fifteen design. The third was for a friend's baby shower. Interestingly...they were all white cake with buttercream! :)

This cake was for my friend Sara's mom, Bev. It is a white cake with a light strawberry cream cheese filling. The flowers are made of gumpaste and dusted with different shades of luster dust (edible glitter). Happy Birthday Bev!

This is a cake that I made for my sister's National Honor Society induction ceremony at her high school. It is a full sheet cake that is half white cake with fresh strawberry buttercream and half dark chocolate fudge with chocolate chip buttercream. Congratulations new NHS members!!

This is a groom's cake that I made this weekend. It is a basic white cake covered in orange fondant to resemble a wrestling mat. The school logos are made out of edible images (food coloring printed out onto sheets of sugar).

These are the 4 flavors of cupcakes I made to take to my family Easter. I maybe went a little overboard, but what the heck! That is what family get togethers are all about, right?? I made carrot cake (at my husband and little sister's requests). It is topped with cream cheese icing and dusted with nutmeg. I made sugared pecans for decoration. I also made tiramisu cupcakes. They are a very light vanilla bean cake that gets soaked with a sugar, coffee and marsala mixture. After a few hours, they get topped with a mascarpone whipped cream and dusted with cocoa powder. Third I made my basic vanilla bean cake with vanilla bean buttercream. I made "flowers" out of dehydrated pineapple. Lastly, S'MORES!!! They are a dark chocolate fudge cake dipped in chocolate ganache. They are topped with marshmallow frosting and that gets torched to toast the marshmallow. Stick in a graham cracker and you are set!! Just like a summer night around the campfire! I hope you like!!! Love, camicakes.

These are the cakes that I made for a baby shower this weekend. The invitations had two owls on them sitting on a branch, so I used them for inspiration. The branch was an easy way to tie the two cakes together. One cake is vanilla cake with strawberry filling and the second is chocolate fudge cake with cream cheese buttercream filling. YUM!

Well...I don't have any cakes for this week, but I am preparing for a baby shower cake for next Saturday. The idea for this cake is to actually have two separate cakes, because the woman is having TWINS!! The theme for the baby shower is owls, so I will have an owl on each cake. To tie both cakes together, I am going to make a tree branch made out of modeling chocolate that goes across both cakes that the owls will be perched on. I am really looking forward to this cake order. I love whimsical cakes! I will post pictures of the cake in progress.
